## What is hackabees?

hackabees is a collective of builders, hackers, and makers who take their name and spirit from the Maccabees — the ancient Jewish priest-warriors who refused to let an empire overwrite their identity.

The name is a portmanteau: Maccabees + Hackers = hackabees.

We are not breakers. We are builders. We protect the code, carry the light, and create things that outlast their own resources — like the single cruse of oil that burned for eight days.

## Etymology

Maccabee (מכבי) means "the hammer" — from the Aramaic *maqqaba*.
It is also an acronym for the battle cry: "Mi kamocha ba'elim?" — "Who is like you among the powers?"

They charged empires screaming a question. So do we.

- **Hokm** — hokem.hackabees.com — A digital implementation of the ancient Persian card game, playable in Hebrew, Farsi, and English. Built with React, TypeScript, and Socket.io.
